Hey Wildstyle, The system inside LAX Hollywood was excellent and was installed by the legendary John Lyons - http://www.avalonsound.com - John had put the system in Body English in Las Vegas where Adam was the resident and Adam wanted him to do it for LAX after that experience. He has installed some of best sound systems in the world including XS in Las Vegas, Avalon in LA, Light in Las Vegas and many others. I will try to dig up some photos of the system when I have some time and post them as a follow up.

Hey Wildstyle, AM did do private parties and some celeb weddings (incl. Christina Aguilera's - see the XTina Mixes on the Mixcloud for those live mixes). He never brought his own equipment to gigs other than his laptop, needles and control vinyl. He always had his buddy Rick Ramirez do the setups (and the customer paid for it) because Rick knew exactly how Adam liked everything set up (see the technical rider that @aa.hornacek posted above). AM actually owned LAX Hollywood nightclub which is were Banana Split Sundaes took place. I was the resident DJ on Friday's at Banana Split and played in the regular DJ booth which had two Technics 1200s, a Rane 56 and serato box and a JBL Eon for the monitor. Everything was on a steel platform that was built into the foundation of the club so nothing could be shaken or moved while playing (avoiding record skips, etc). For Banana Split, they moved the booth to the center of the club where a bottle service booth was. They did this to be more a part of the crowd and club. LAX Hollywood was not a small club but it wasn't huge either. It had a main club area and two different outside patios. The capacity was around 400 or so people. Hit me up with anymore questions!

Hey Wildstyle, Thanks for the post & question! AM used the Serato internal recording function to record pretty much all of his live mixes from 2007 on. So basically straight from his laptop onto his laptop hard drive using Serato's built in record function. Some of the earlier ones were recorded by various other means including the 2005 demo that he & I worked on. We recorded that one straight into a mixing board from his mixer and sequenced it using Sony's Sound Forge & Vegas (popular programs at that time). The Elton mixes (with the exception of #4 which was recorded live at The Ambassador in SF) were recorded using Serato record feature at his house. Hope this helps. Hey John, thanks for your post! Yes, I too would like for this site forum & blog comment sections to be more active but most people seem to leave their comments on the DJ AM Lives Instagram (@djamlives) page instead... and that's ok. My plan is to keep this up as an archive to Adam long term and continue to add to it as I have the time. There are still plenty of things left to post about and more unreleased mixes to come. I also plan to re-do a few of the pages here including the Music, Videos and As I AM pages to reflect changes I've made in those areas with the Mixcloud (mixcloud.com/djamlives), YouTube (YouTube.com/djamlives) and some upcoming news regarding the documentary. Rest assured I have AM's content backed up on several drives as well as the cloud so I won't lose all the stuff that is still left to be posted. I would invite you to continue to please post, comment and share on our forum here and on the instagram page. It's membership like yours that will give this space life! Take care and rest assured Adam's legacy will continue to live on...

@widespreadmusic So what AM told me back at the time he released the first Elton mix was that it was recorded at a party for Elton John. Adam was regularly recording his gigs at that time and he had been playing some eclectic alternative to start off his gigs before the party kicked into full gear. (You can hear him doing this in mixes like "Old Navy Part 1" and "Nous Modelling Agency" mixes on the DJ AM Lives Mixcloud page). On this particular night, Elton showed up as he was playing these eclectic tunes and told him he loved it and to keep doing it. So that's what Adam did... he played a ton of lesser known indie & eclectic tunes for Elton and AM was thrilled that the guest of honor liked his taste in lesser known tunes. Inspired by that night, he decided to release it to friends via email. Of course we all bugged out on it so he released it publicly with the caveat "this is something for your car". He had never released a mix that wasn't clubby, ravey or commercial so he wanted people to know it was more for listening than partying. Because the response was so strong, he decided to make more mixes like it and name them all Elton in honor of how they came about. I believe Eltons #2, #3 & #5 were recorded at his setup at home and that #4 was recorded live early evening at The Ambassador in San Francisco (of which he was an investor in). @walshtodd83 Added this gem to the "Live Performances" playlist. Thank you! There are no recordings in AM's archives from this night unfortunately but he did have a couple still images. They match up with what he was wearing that night... he's got on a super dope Nas vintage rap tee that's worth a mint today.

@walshtodd83 Good catch on it being the same mix as the "Live at WMC 2008"! AM likely recycled it for the grand opening of Rain to showcase the format he'd be playing. I knew it wasn't recorded at Rain since the CD with this mix was handed out opening night. I didn't make the connection, however, of it being the "Live at WMC 2008" because many of his mixes have similar routines (and I have tons of his mixes - many that are still unreleased). Thanks for the info on it, it's good to have background on all things AM.

I have recordings from many gigs as well as one from his Pure residency in Las Vegas but he didn’t have any recordings from Rain in his personal archives so I’m afraid there aren’t any that I know of. ☹️ However, there are some great videos from the Rain residency and the DJ 2nd Nature Rain Tribute video in the video section of the site is about as good as it gets.

Hey @charliebee -- Thanks for posting up a question! So the short answer is that he used a combination of different methods. But mostly it was broken down according to gig types then placed in an order in which the tracks could roughly fit together. So for instance, Adam played many commercial gigs which he put all those tracks into an "AHH YEAH" crate. He also had specific genre crates for 80s, 90s, R&B along with Rock, Hip Hop Classics and Grown N Sexy (which is basically opening R&B style). He would also have crates for Banana Split, Elton Mixes and gigs that required other styles of music. He also had specific mix sets he would do broken into crates as well... so like Oasis and his Horn Set for example. This image below is taken directly from his last laptop in August of 2009, it shows part of his AHH YEAH crate (which is essentially his main club crate) and these tracks are mostly in the order he liked to play these tracks. He had it set up in a way that he could jump around to do different familiar AM mix sets or could play similar tracks that were close in BPM if he felt like riffing. Hope this helps answer your question. I may add some additional screens of his organization over time as well so check back again.
